Tool Steel Shavings

Unlike aluminum, stick your hand into this stuff and it comes out bloody.

Final Bot Cutter Machining

Not only was adding these weapons to the corners of Tesla a necessary upgrade, but I got to learn how to do CNC machining, too. This was a great experience--another arrow in my quiver of building techniques.

Machined "Bot Cutters" (Chisel Edge Version)

Here are the (about to be hardened) new "bot cutter" corners for Tesla. Each are 2.6 pounds of soon-to-be Rockwell 57C hardened tool steel.

Bot Cutter Edge View

The location and mounting of each bot cutter is such that it forms a "milling" edge to the bot under attack. These cutters are backed-up by the full 120 lb. weight of Tesla rotating at upwards of 600 RPM.

Installed Bot Cutter

Here's a closeup of one of the bot cutters mounted. Its design is to catch, or impact, any opponent bot that encroaches on the "space" occupied by Tesla. Note this includes a small margin above and below the main body. The surface finish from the hardening is not blackish as I had expected. It turns out they used a vacuum treatment where there is no oxygen present during heating.
