Safety Covers
The BattleBot Technical Regulations require that any sharp corners be covered, and that a force of 2 pounds cannot remove the cover. Since my bot cutters are made of a magnetic alloy, I thought it only natural that the covers be held on with strong magnets.

Caster Alignment
The casters do not contact the ground all the time, and when they don't they tend to swing outward. These springs center the casters close to their nominal circumferential track so that they don't have far to move when they come in contact with the ground again.

New: Charging Clamps
The old method of individually affixing each terminal to the eight battery connections was too time consuming, taking upwards of 15 minutes. To remedy this the contacts are mounted on two quick-connecting "charging clamps".
|
Charging Clamp Contacts
Pressure is applied from a single point halfway between the contacts so that they are both equally engaged.

Improved Controller/IR Transmitter
Two additions to the transmitter are a linear polarizer (the tall dark area on the front of the box on the left), and a Fresnel collimating lens (box on right).
|
Focused IR
The new remote control transmitter will have a large Fresnel collimating lens. This is the beam pattern--invisible to the eye, but any CCD digital camera can see it.
